Hello, I come from another UE country, I would like to obtain a Bulgaria driving license and I would like to know which documents I need.
ID card and high school diplom are enough? Or I have to ask for a residence permission? And a residence permission of how many days requires?
In the case I need the residence permission, what I need to get it? A Bulgarian address, a bank account, or what else?
Or I Just can obtain the Bulgarian driving license without residence card?
    Thank You a lot!

      Hello, Sibilla!
You need a Bulgarian ID card. Then yes, you need a high school diploma for at least 10th grade – translated and legalized in front of the Embassy. Yes, in order to get a bulgarian id card – you need to have a permenent adress in Bulgaria – a contract for long-term rent of a flat is also OK. You cannot obtain a Bulgarian driving license without a residence id card.

    Hello,
I just purchased the car in Spain and the car is already de-registered, so it doesn’t have a license plates.
Unfortunately as I’m not an EU citizen, I cannot obtain temporary transit plates for the car in Spain (according to the local regulations) to get back to my country by car.

Only solution I can think of is to transfer the car to Germany and register the transit plates there in no time (as I usually do without problems when I buy a car in Germany), but I’m not sure if they will register the transit plates when the car is not purchased in Germany but in Spain.

Shortly the question is, can I register a car temporary transit plates in Germany when the car is purchased in Spain and doesn’t have any registration currently? I would transfer the car with evacuator

    Thanks in advance

Hello, Ti! You will not be able to get German transit plates when the initial car’s papers are Spanish.

    Hello georgi,

I have bought a car from Bulgaria and after two years i have decided to import it in Greece. The car has been bought from Italy and the Bulgarian dealer told me that the first italian license of the car has been deposited at KAT when he registered the car in Bulgaria and he doesn’t has any copy.
Does this sound legit to you? Also do you know if KAT could provide me a copy?

Thanks for your time and effort.

      Hello Charis,
Have you registered this car in Bulgaria already? If yes, then the answer is yes – the Italian registration certificate remains in KAT and you get a new Bulgarian registration certificate on its place. This is usual. No, I don’t think you can get a copy of the old Italian reg. cert from KAT.

Hello, I’m interested in buying a car to use it as source of parts for my car. Is there any procedure to delete the new car from the system (it will never be used)?

Actually not, because the online system is not working. You have to go physically in KAT and ask about this info.

Hello, Mr. Ivanovic! You have to check on Serbian websites for fines issued in Republic of Serbia. Serbia is outside of EU and the communication between the administration of Bulgaria and Serbia is very slow not saying that it is missing at all.

Hi Jonathan! Yes, it is right. You need an insurance. If you apply for Bulgarian transit number, you need a Bulgarian insurance.

Hi, Paolo! There are 2 options. First one you buy it from a dealer and the car has not yet been registered in Bulgaria. You have to receive from the dealer all the docs for the registration. Additionally you have to pay the civil insurance only. You go to the police administration with car and the papers and ask for export registration, so that you can drive the car by yourself. Second option is to buy a registered car. In this case you go to a notary with the seller. Both parties sign a contract for sale and then you go with the papers to the police administration to ask for export registration again. I hope that helps.

Well, I’m interested in a BMW E36 318 is,it was my dream car and also that’s what my budget can get(around 2500 leva).I have heard that in Bulgaria it is easy to maintain because parts are everywhere and it is easy to work with by the mechanics, but im worried about 2 things,is it truly cheap to keep up and reliable as the say, also how can we be sure that the car doesnt have Sasi problem’s or major problems at all,and a third one,i don’t wanna be rude or anything but i have seen in bulgaria that many cars get stolen, but i think it is not worth it any more to steal an old bmw e36 23 years old.

Hello, Konstantin! I would rather not advice you to buy E36. It is a very old car. You will have a lot of problems with the maintenance. You would better buy a newer, smaller, economical car then the old BMW. This is my opinion.

Hello, Mr. Ivanovic! Yes, you need to change your car’s registration if you have changed your permanent address on your id card. You go with the car and all documents to KAT Burgas and change plates and registration certificates. You would rather make an LPG installation in a certified Bulgarian installation garage, not in Serbia. Serbia is not in the EU and I don’t think that Serbian mechanics can issue any document required in Bulgaria and EU. And one advise from me – first do the LPG installation and then go to KAT Burgas for changing the number plates.

Hi Georgi, I will be moving out of Bulgaria soon and I’m thinking about buying a used car here and exporting it to another EU-country. I have a couple of questions about the export registration. From previous replies here I understood that I can register the car for export. Is this registration valid throughout the European Union? Is there a fixed time period how long I can use these export plates either in Bulgaria or in other EU-countries? Thanks in advance!
